Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., told Newsmax he believes that the southern border gets fixed on "day one" of President-elect Donald Trump's entry into office.
"I believe the president, on day one, we'll have 90 to 100 executive orders on the border. And I think on day one, the problem begins to get fixed," Paul told "Rob Schmitt Tonight" on Wednesday.
"Will there be some legislation that takes longer? Sure," he added. "But I fully expect in the first two months you're going to see criminal elements in our country arrested. And I will be shocked if you don't. And I don't think that requires any legislation.
"I'm for legislation to help secure the border, but I think the president has the power, and he has the will. Biden had the power, but no will — did nothing and allowed the border to be wide open, in fact, encouraged the spread of the people throughout the country with money.
"I think Trump can fix it on day one. It won't immediately go away. But what I want to see, and I think what the Americans want to see, is see people like the murderer of Laken Riley arrested. I want to see people arrested who have committed crimes both before they came to our country and since."
