Paula Knauss Selph, whose son, Ryan, was killed during the withdrawal of Afghanistan in 2021, told Newsmax, Monday, former President Joe Biden has never apologized for what happened to her son.
Ryan was 1 of 13 people killed in Kabul during the withdrawal. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has recently launched a new investigation into what happened.
Biden "has never apologized," she said on Newsmax's "Wake Up America." "I have met him face to face. And he did not even say then any kind of sorrow for what happened. And so I don't expect a call. I would have expected it in person. And it didn't happen."
She said Biden didn't give her a hug when they met.
"It was a character issue to me right then," Knauss Selph said. "We moved forward, because [President Donald Trump] certainly has shown great grief over the loss of the 13 and all of our men and women that we lose and the courage that they have to stand up for our country."
The Gold Star mother said she has met with Trump face to face and in person.
"He has been there for us many times to make sure that we know that he cares about our men and women who serve our country," she said. "He has a heart for our military, and we're so grateful for that leadership.
"There are many of us who are so thankful that he's headed over to Arlington today to remember the great men and women of this country who have served not just my son, not just the 13, but all Americans who have served and who have given it all their full devotion. He is here for us as a leader that we have so needed for so long, and it's such a great opportunity today to salute our men and women who have given full measure."
