Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., told Newsmax on Tuesday, that Dr. Anthony Fauci and the National Institute of Health are covering their tracks to avoid admitting COVID-19 was generated in a lab.
Appearing on "Prime News," Paul said they are acting just like China as they continue to hide their information and get access to data.
"We never expected our own government would do the same thing here," Paul said.
Paul said Fauci and the NIH try to deny they had anything to do with research at a Wuhan lab, where he believes COVID-19 was created.
"We know they funded research that was dangerous," Paul said. "The Department of Energy, the FBI, even a group of scientists at the CIA all concluded that they believe the virus came from the lab."
Yet Fauci continues to deny that gain of function research was occurring at the lab in Wuhan, Paul said.
"We had the acting head of the NIH and he said the opposite," Paul said. "He said by any kind of definition, by any kind of general understanding of gain of function, of course they were doing it."
Paul said Fauci's private emails show him being worried that it came from a lab 2020.
"In public, he ridiculed those of us who were saying it," Paul said. "They wrote entire articles in scientific journals saying that it absolutely was not a laboratory construct, that there wasn't any chance this came from a lab. And now, he's singing a different tune. I mean, it's really staggering for us, particularly because we know that all of this can happen again."
Dangerous research like this is going on in laboratories around the world, which could lead to pandemic worse than COVID, Paul said.
"Admit this came from a lab and admit this research was dangerous," Paul said.
Paul said he will be proposing legislation requiring oversight over dangerous laboratory research.
