Americans need courage to say, “My religion is superior to anything the government says,” the Rev. Gerald Murray, pastor of the Church of the Holy Family in New York City, told Newsmax Saturday.
“The 'woke' movement was largely sponsored by the government and by elite institutions such as universities and Hollywood and the like, and it basically asserted that a nonreligious view of life is the only one that's acceptable in public,” Murray said during an appearance on Newsmax TV’s “Saturday Agenda.”
“And that's ridiculous. You know, they're going after football coaches who say prayers after games with the team. They're going after pro athletes who refuse to cooperate in promoting the gay agenda and things of this sort.
"No, we need courage. We need courage to say my religion is superior to anything the government says. And my government in America is supposed to respect that.
“So, you must respect that to be a good American. And we don't want the government telling us what's acceptable belief and behavior in our public life. Let's do that ourselves.
"Let's tell the world that the Christian gospel promotes harmony, peace and social prosperity. And if people disagree with it, well, we're ready to sit down and talk with them because we don't hate people. We disagree with some people, but we want to try to convince them.”
