Rep. Rich McCormick, R-Ga., told Newsmax Tuesday he is hopeful Republicans will confirm Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard to their Cabinet posts.
McCormick, a doctor, noted Kennedy's skepticism about vaccines but felt the nominee to lead the Department of Health & Human Services defended himself well.
"He has some points to be made," McCormick said on "National Report." "I think it's OK to be skeptical as long as you enforce the law and science and allow people to make their own decisions, which is what I've always defended all along. We educate parents and we allow them to make decisions."
McCormick said it's important to have open debates, which Democrats are afraid of.
"The two people that are going to get the hardest look are going to be former Democrats," McCormick said. "The Democrats are absolutely fearful of having anything that's outside the norm. They want to paint us as all white old men, and they don't like having diversity in the Republican Party. And they always go against anybody of diversity, whether it be party, gender, race. That's what they do. They love to play that card."
McCormick defended Gabbard, who was nominated for director of national intelligence.
"It's good to see the naysayers coming on board," McCormick said. "She hasn't done anything extremely controversial. She'll do what we're looking for, which is pull back the veil of the different agencies that have been biased. You've seen where the FBI investigated the wrong people for the wrong reasons. It's good to have somebody expose that and get away from weaponizing the government, which is ultimately what has been done by the Democrats. We need to get to the bottom of that."
