It is impossible to know what will happen in Syria now that rebels have overthrown despotic leader Bashar al-Assad, former acting Director of National Intelligence Ric Grenell told Newsmax on Monday.
There's "no love lost" for "killer" al-Assad, Grenell told "Rob Schmitt Tonight," and "the rebel groups are a mix of a lot of different types of people."
For example, one of the groups, HTS, is from al Nusra, a designated terrorist group. However, the groups also consist of groups funded by the U.S., some by the Turks, some by the Jordanians, and some by the Emirates. The Kurds, another group native to the region, are also there.
As such, "we need to kind of figure out who's going to take the lead, and what are they going to look like," Grenell said. "The reality is ... we're going to judge them by their actions."
