Rep. Rich McCormick to Newsmax: Trump 'Juggernaut' in Getting GOP 'in Line'

By    |   Wednesday, 04 February 2026 08:53 AM EST

President Donald Trump has been a "juggernaut" in unifying House Republicans as they push forward with key government funding measures and election integrity priorities, according to Rep. Rich McCormick, R-Ga., on Newsmax.

"President Trump has been essentially a juggernaut in getting everybody in line," McCormick told Wednesday's "Wake Up America." "This is the most united Republican Party you've ever seen with a one-vote majority passing bills that I was actually quite skeptical we'd be able to pass.

"But look at where we're at. We're getting it done."

McCormick admitted he was not all-in on the Senate Democrats' reworking the bipartisan and bicameral final six appropriations package into five parts and a dangling continuing resolution on Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding.

He was also keen on keeping the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act in the package, but said he relented on Trump's leadership to just get the funding bill through to regroup on election integrity measures later, as Democrats remain obstructionists to codifying nationwide voter ID.

"I think the voter ID thing was just another issue where you are not going to have accountability," McCormick told co-hosts Marc Lotter and Sharla McBride on Democrats digging in against a common-sense election integrity measure that is widely popular with Americans.

"You're right. It's an 80% issue. We're going to win on this. The only reason we didn't put this in here is because President Trump said, 'I don't want to vote on this right now. Let's make this clean. Let's get this done. Let's fund the government. Let's pick our fights one day at a time.'"

Opposition to the SAVE Act and voter ID provisions in it are merely a public admission by Democrats they want to "cheat" on elections, according to McCormick.

"I think they wanted to cheat all along — when you talk about the people who are encouraged, imported, basically flown into the United States, that didn't have real good reason before," he said.

"Now some did, and some are going to get an amnesty because they're coming from war-torn areas or places where they could literally be executed when they returned to. That's really important to address.

"But a vast majority of these people they were bringing in to basically warp the demographics of different districts.

"When you have representation by noncitizens getting representation and money and a congressman, you can have hundreds of thousands of people in one district represented by somebody who really can't be voted for legally. And they were doing this on purpose."

But, because of the ability of the minority party to hold the majority hostage, democracy "is messy," but this compromise was the "best deal" Republicans could get with their narrow 218-214 majority, McCormick continued.

"It's never good enough for what I want, but I understand this is a democracy, it is messy," he said. "You're never gonna get exactly what you want, but it's probably the best thing we could possibly get.

"Obviously, the far left wants to defund anything that has to do with the DHS, with ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement]. They're not going to get their way either. It doesn't make sense.

"We need to fund the government. We don't want to shut down. It's the best deal you're going to get. Yes, it's not perfect, but we passed 12 appropriation bills by essentially a one-vote margin. It's a good, good bill. And I'm excited about moving forward.

"Even if they're talking about shutting down this one portion of the government, it should be very short-lived. And I think we're going to get it done."
