Sen. Marshall to Newsmax: Faith in FBI, Secret Service Waning

By    |   Tuesday, 30 July 2024 10:53 AM EDT

In light of the numerous security failures leading to the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kan., told Newsmax on Tuesday that Americans are losing faith in the FBI and Secret Service.

Ronald Rowe, acting director of the Secret Service, on Tuesday was set to testify before Senate lawmakers to clarify the lapses in security that led to 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks nearly killing Trump during a July 13 campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

While various explanations have been floated as to how such a clear line of sight for an assassin could have been overlooked, Marshall cautioned that "conspiracy theories are conceived when there's a lack of information."

"They [the FBI and Secret Service] need to look America in the eye and the camera today and say either they are concerned there was more to it than just one shooter or there's not," he said on "Wake Up America." "If I was betting money, I think this is a lone wolf. I think that this was a mentally disturbed young man, and he was a copycat of the JFK assassination. That's the most likely answer."

Marshall said the key to rebuilding trust in security agencies is to have "a strong commander in chief to become president of the United States and restore democracy, restore safety, security, and restore law and order."

Marshall added that Trump's pick of Sen. J.D. Vance, R-Ohio, as his running mate was the right choice.

"I think J.D. is a bridge to the future," Marshall said. "I think he articulates the president's message. He's a good man, I can tell you. I know him very, very well. He's a trusted a person, and I trust very much. He loves hard-working men and women. I think he's a great choice."
