Lieutenant Governor to Newsmax: Super Bowl to Be 'Best, Safest'

By    |   Thursday, 06 February 2025 11:50 AM EST

New Orleans is ready to host the "best" and "safest" Super Bowl in the sporting event's history Sunday, Louisiana Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser told Newsmax.

"I got my jersey on, will be riding in the Super Bowl parade," Nungesser told Thursday's "Wake Up America." "You know we know how to throw a parade, with Mardi Gras, so, it'll be viewed across the world, the Super Bowl parade, leading up to the big game."

President Donald Trump will be in attendance when the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles take to the field at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday, in a first for a sitting president.

Nungesser vowed the city and Louisiana are prepared to keep Trump and all spectators safe at Super Bowl LIX.

"l tell you, our governor has done a great job in bringing the Homeland Security director down last week to tour the French Quarter," Nungesser said. "You can't get within six blocks of the Superdome. They've got everything blocked off. Security is really high. I've never seen anything like it.

"We are prepared, and we welcome the president. It'll be a great opportunity to have the first sitting president visit the Super Bowl here in New Orleans."

While Trump has not said which team he is supporting in this year's Super Bowl, he put out a statement on social media congratulating the Chiefs when they won the AFC Championship game against the Buffalo Bills.

"What a GREAT Team, Coach, Quarterback, and virtually everything else, including those fantastic FANS, that voted for me (MAGA!) in record numbers," Trump said in the post.

When asked in the Oval Office for a game prediction, Trump said he would not give one, but noted there is a quarterback who always wins – that being Patrick Maholmes, who is going for a historic third win.

Notably, the president did not say anything when the Eagles beat the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship game. There was a controvery last fall when posters in Philadelphia suggested the Eagles were endorsing Kamala Harris.

Recalling the tragic New Year's Day truck attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans last month, Nungesser said Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry installed crime-reducing technology in the French Quarter "long before that horrible event," including cameras and facial recognition systems.

"So, crime was getting a lot better in the quarter prior to that event," he said. "When the city, the mayor, dropped the ball on not having those balusters in place, the governor stepped in and put balusters all over the French Quarter, all over the Convention Center, Superdome.

"So, he's got all the high-traffic areas covered and then bringing in state police and all the federal law enforcement that's here. Every corner has a lot of law enforcement. Like I said, it'll be the safest Super Bowl, and Mardi Gras, ever and we're excited."
