Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, predicted to Newsmax on Monday that illegal immigration will "plummet" on Jan. 20, the day President-elect Donald Trump assumes the presidency.
Cruz told "Rob Schmitt Tonight" that of all the mandates delivered by the American people on Nov. 5, securing the border was the "clearest."
"Well, Rob, it's going to be extraordinary. There are many things that came out of the election in November, but the clearest mandate of all is a mandate to secure the border and to do it now," Cruz said. "And I believe on Jan. 20, we're going to see a dramatic sea change. We're going to see President Trump issue a whole series of executive orders.
"We're going to see catch-and-release, the policy [President] Joe Biden and the Democrats put in place, ended on Jan. 20. And my prediction: we will see the numbers of illegal immigrants plummet starting next week," Cruz added. "We are going to secure the border.
"And by the way, we're going to follow that up with Congress passing strong legislation to fund the wall, to fund more Border Patrol agents, more ICE agents. This is a promise to the voters we got to deliver on."
