America witnessed two deadly terror attacks on New Year's Day because the "FBI and Department of Justice are far more focused on weaponization and going after [President-elect] Donald Trump than keeping America safe," Republican National Committee Chair Michael Whatley told Newsmax on Thursday.
Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, drove a pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, killing at least 15 people and injuring dozens of others before being shot to death by police. Later in the day, a Tesla Cybertruck was detonated by Matthew Livelsberger, 37, outside the entrance to the Trump International Hotel, killing himself and injuring seven others.
Whatley said things will change "Jan. 20 when Donald Trump gets into office."
"He is going to bring in Kash Patel [FBI Director nominee], Pam Bondi [attorney general nominee], and he's going to work every day to keep America safe," Whatley told "Wake Up America." "It is absolutely past time for us to have a refocusing of the Department of Justice and the FBI."
Whatley noted there is "an American agenda" behind the election of Trump that revolves around national security.
"He is the one who ran on an agenda to restore our southern border, rebuild our economy, and keep our communities safe," Whatley concluded. "That is the priority of the American people."
