Rep. Troy Downing, R-Mont., told Newsmax on Wednesday that coverage of the Iran conflict highlights what he called a clear bias in legacy U.S. media.
He said foreign outlets are delivering more balanced reporting on U.S. action in the Middle East than many American networks.
Appearing on "Wake Up America," Downing contrasted international coverage with what he described as consistently negative framing from U.S. media organizations. He argued that some outlets appear unwilling to acknowledge positive developments tied to the Trump administration.
"I think you hit the nail on the head right there," he said. "The media is so reluctant to give credit to this administration that it's just painful for them."
Downing said this reluctance reflects a broader pattern of political bias that continues to shape coverage of national security issues. In his view, opposition to President Donald Trump is driving editorial decisions at major U.S. outlets.
"But the reality of it is that history is going to be on our side," he said. "What we've done is we've neutralized a world threat."
The Montana Republican pointed to shifting dynamics in the region as evidence that U.S. actions are gaining traction.
He said neighboring countries are increasingly aligning with the United States, a development he believes is underreported domestically.
"As you start to see that region, you start to see these other states around Iran starting to go in there as well and being on our side," Downing said. "That tells you that we're in for a big change in that region."
He argued that the disconnect between foreign reporting and U.S. coverage should prompt questions about media priorities. He suggested that some outlets are more focused on criticizing the administration than presenting a full picture of events.
Still, the congressman expressed confidence that the long-term outcome will validate the administration's approach. He said current trends point toward a more stable and cooperative Middle East.
"I think it's going to be positive," Downing said. "And I think that we're on the right side of history here, hopefully."
