Karen Pierce, the British ambassador to the United States, told Newsmax on Thursday that President-elect Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer are planning to build a "very close" working relationship.
Pierce said on "Wake Up America" that Starmer "wants to establish a very close, warm working relationship with President Trump."
She noted that the two "met in September in New York" and have "spoken on the phone since," as recently as Wednesday of this week.
Pierce said that they had a "very good conversation" that concerned Ukraine as well as "growth, economic prosperity, [and] how they were going to work together."
She said, "The prime minister congratulated the president-elect on his recent appointments, and the president-elect remembered that he'd met Prince William, Prince of Wales, at the Notre Dame ceremony a couple of weeks ago."
She added that Starmer "also said he hopes to restart talks with the Trump administration on a new trade deal after sitting President Joe Biden halted those talks two years ago."
Pierce also said that Trump and Starmer are "on track to be very strong indeed. She added: "You know, we have a historical tradition of a strong relationship between the White House and 10 Downing Street, regardless of the particular party in power on either side of the Atlantic. And as I say, they have got on very well, and they have this very similar objective of growth and economic prosperity and looking after economic security."
