Former President Donald Trump Saturday said he considers it a "great badge of honor" when he is indicted by the "radical-left Democrats, Marxist communists, and fascists" because "I'm being indicted for you."
That's because in 2020, Democrats got "lucky as hell" with President Joe Biden being put in office, and "they don't want to go through that again," Trump said in his pre-caucus rally in Las Vegas, which aired live on Newsmax and simulcast on the Newsmax2 online streaming platform.
"They hope that's going to be the new form of cheating, weaponizing," he said. "They want to weaponize the FBI, the DOJ [Department of Justice]. ... The radical-left Democrats rigged the presidential election in 2020. We're not going to allow them to rig the presidential election of 2024."
Trump's comments come one day after a jury in New York awarded columnist E. Jean Carroll an $83.3 million verdict, adding to the $5 million she was awarded in October, in damages for allegedly destroying her reputation as a trustworthy journalist after she accused him in 2019 of raping her nearly 30 years ago.
Trump did not mention Carroll by name Saturday, but pointed out that when he went to the Wharton School of Finance, "they didn't teach indictment 101."
"I got indicted four times," Trump said. "Al Capone, the meanest of all, Scarface ... he was indicted less than me."
But Trump promised the crowd that he would "never let them take away your freedom."
"They want to silence me because I will never let them silence you," he said. "That's what they want to do. That's the game they play. And in the end, they're not after me. They're after you. I just happened to be standing in the way."
