Rep. Buddy Carter, R-Ga., told Newsmax on Tuesday that President-elect Donald Trump's call for a single reconciliation bill "is the way to go" but noted that "there are advantages to a two-bill system."
Carter was asked on "Wake Up America" about Trump's call for a single bill that would enact his policies on energy and the border as well as extend the 2017 tax cuts he championed.
"I think there are good points on both sides, and the president has actually wavered a little bit on this here in the last couple of days," Carter said.
He added that Trump "sent the message to us at our conference this past weekend that he wanted 'one big, beautiful bill,' and I still think that is the way to go."
Carter continued, "However, there are advantages to a two-bill system as well, and speed is important."
The Georgia Republican noted that on Monday evening, the Main Street Caucus met with members of the Trump transition team who "emphasized that speed is important here."
Carter, a member of the caucus, said, "We need to get this done. The American people have sent us a mandate … They want to see us come out with this reconciliation package and get some things done" within "the first 100 days."
He went on to criticize the Biden administration's attempt to block new oil and gas drilling along most of the U.S. coastline, saying that President Joe Biden was "giving in to the radical environmentalists who would rather see us destroy American energy and have high cost of living like we do now and like we have for the last four years."
