House Speaker Mike Johnson on Friday survived a razor-thin vote to be reelected for the position, a sign that “you're going to see a coming together behind President Trump's agenda,” says Rep. Randy Weber, R-Texas.
“He took all the swing states. He got the popular vote, of course, the electoral college, he got the mandate,” Weber said of Trump during an appearance on Newsmax TV’s “Saturday Agenda.”
“You're going to see the Republicans get behind him and get the tax cuts and these bills out as quickly as possible this time, because we learned from last time that we need to get it done pretty quick.”
Johnson was reelected after flipping two GOP opponents following an intervention by Trump, but he will face a big challenge in Congress with the narrowest House majority in nearly 100 years.
Johnson on Friday avoided the dayslong ordeal that his predecessor, Kevin McCarthy, endured to become speaker.
“I was there the whole time. Boy, that was some event that we had to suffer through, if that's the right term,” said Weber.
“So, I don't think I don't think people wanted that again. And so, I think that you're going to see a coming together behind President Trump's agenda.”
