Rep. Wesley Hunt, R-Texas, told Newsmax on Thursday that Congress should crack down on "safe haven" areas for immigrants with legislation to "secure our border" after reports of illegal crossings on the Southern coast.
Hunt, appearing on "Finnerty," was asked about a report from the Miami Herald about two dozen Chinese migrants who were smuggled to Florida from Cuba and why they would have gone there instead of Texas.
"This is about sticking your finger in the dam to stop all the water, and the water is going to have to go somewhere else," Hunt said.
He added: "I do believe that President Trump is going to continue to make sure that we pass legislation like we've seen for the past few weeks to secure our border and to stop the influx of these migrants from going anywhere in this country."
Hunt went on to say that "there needs to be zero safe haven for anywhere, and they're going to try their best to probe our fences. But again, it's up to us to keep them out. And I think we're going to adjust accordingly."
