S.C. AG Wilson to Newsmax: Biden Clemencies Not 'Principled'

By    |   Thursday, 26 December 2024 05:57 PM EST

South Carolina Republican Attorney General Alan Wilson told Newsmax on Thursday that the pardons and commutations coming out of the Biden administration are not "principled" decisions, asserting they’re being made by people in the "shadows of the White House."

Wilson told "The Chris Salcedo Show" that President Joe Biden is an "empty suit."

"Well, first I want to say that if this wasn't so serious and sad, it would almost be laughable. You were talking about his mental decline; my family and I every year we watch 'Christmas Vacation.' Joe Biden reminded me of the character of 'Aunt Bethany' sitting at the table," Wilson said. "This is one of those situations where you would laugh if it wasn't so serious. What he is doing is not a principled decision. These are decisions being made by people in the shadows of the White House."

Biden on Monday commuted the death sentences of 37 inmates — cop killers, child rapists, and killers, mass murderers among them — sitting on federal death row to life sentences, save for three: Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev; South Carolina church mass murderer Dylann Roof; and Robert Bowers, who killed 11 at a Pittsburgh synagogue in 2018.

Wilson reacted to Biden’s clemencies on Monday, calling them a "blatant betrayal of justice."

"When you commute the sentences of murderers and rapists, you know, and violent criminals and people accused of espionage around the country but you leave three people … on death row for political reasons, these are the things that people like me find incredibly offensive," Wilson said. "People here in South Carolina do not appreciate what this president is doing."
