Back in 2020, the original Boys Scouts of America’s attempt to rebrand was an effort to deal with bankruptcy in the middle of a horrible sex abuse scandal.

Back then it was to become "Scouts BSA."

The leadership failed to see that moral corruption is the problem, not "the brand."

It's no surprise then that BSA’s rebrand didn’t work.

They announced this week a new attempt to change the name as they try to cheat destiny (Scouting America).

As we now know, the rampant immorality and leadership failure at BSA culminated in the corruption and sexual abuse of thousands (yes, thousands) of children.

They effectively looked the other way when witnessing the evil of the actions of its leaders.

Sin has a way of eating up its host as it continues to eat away your sense of right and wrong.

BSA’s leadership failed to recognize their own mission which includes the 12-point Scout Law that traditionally culminated with a beautiful call to, "Be reverent toward God."

That highest of goals was long abandoned by leaders who knowingly tolerated and even promoted the most egregious sinful and immoral behavior within its ranks.

The lesson for every Christian organization (and every Christian) is this, you’re either actively killing sin or sin is actively killing you.

We must be relentless.

Declare war on the sin within you and never surrender, until the day you die.

The Scouts surrendered.

First, by allowing gay scout leaders, then by allowing sexual scandal and immorality to thrive, then abandoning their original purpose altogether. And it ate them up.

We expressed great skepticism about BSA’s motives for filing bankruptcy back in 2020.

They did not file bankruptcy to do right by the victims.

In fact, the very opposite is true.

Declaring bankruptcy was part of their scheme to avoid facing juries on all its victims’ cases and keep secret the mountain of evidence that would expose them even further as dangerous to every parent in America.

The bankruptcy was the Scouts’ way to try to undercut more cases like the 2010 Oregon trial brought by a man who was sexually abused by his scoutmaster as a child.

That case uncovered more than 20,000 pages of internal documents about sexual abuse in the Boy Scout’s ranks.

The jury awarded 19.9 million dollars to the victim — 18.5 million in punitive damages.

The Scouts sought to "close its doors," not to customers but to the thousands of victims that it should have rightfully faced. It sought, as it has become an expert in doing, to keep things behind closed doors, protecting the predators at the expense of victims.

Even today, the Scouts BSA’s actions are not driven towards repentance and righteousness. We are witnessing today is more of the same.

The organization’s President and Chief Executive Officer Roger Krone had great propaganda everywhere announcing their "new," "more inclusive" approach. But this is nothing but a publicity stunt.

In interviews, the truth slipped out. Membership is at "historic lows."

So, in true P.T. Barnum style, "There is no such thing as bad publicity," he announces the name change to create a fake controversy and recruit more of anything that will just bring him the money. Survival, ironically, is the goal now for this once revered but currently moribund organization.

The Boys Scouts’ shameful demise is in many ways a reflection of our cultural demise.

Here’s hoping the publicity helps some wake up before it’s too late.
