President Donald Trump's recent directive for the U.S. government to begin the process of designating certain branches of the Muslim Brotherhood as terrorist organizations drew loud criticism from certain elements on the political right.

However, they fail to understand the nuances of U.S. counter-terrorism law that demands a chapter-based approach because not all Brotherhood branches are engaged in violence or in material support of terrorism.
