Last year, the world celebrated the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Though the Soviet Union would endure for another two years, this moment is universally considered its death knell and the end of the Cold War.

Many also considered it the moment when national identity and regional sovereignty worldwide would begin to disappear for the first time in history, and the world would become one global community.
