U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's in-house medical division, the ICE Health Service Corps, provides extensive care to immigrant detainees within detention facilities, a move federal officials say significantly reduces overcrowding and unnecessary visits to local emergency rooms in the United States.

Across the U.S., overcrowded emergency rooms have become a chronic issue, burdened not only by residents but also by an expanding population of detained noncitizens.
