Religious Leaders Rejoice Over Endorsing Candidates

In every election cycle for 70 years, religious leaders across America received an intimidating warning from the IRS: Endorse political candidates from the pulpit and your church could lose its tax-exempt status.

Although the ban on direct political engagement was rarely enforced, it created a cloud of uncertainty over congregations, especially smaller ones that could be severely damaged financially.
