President Donald Trump told reporters on Tuesday that he would "take a look" at possibly arresting former Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over his actions during the Biden administration that led to nearly 10 million migrants entering the U.S. illegally.
Blaze Media's Julio Rosas preemptively called Mayorkas' handling of the U.S. border "disastrous" and then asked, "Why hasn't [Mayorkas] been arrested yet? Obviously, you guys are cleaning out the mess that was made deliberately the past four years, and people want accountability. It's great to see the border is secured, and it's great to see the state-level cooperation, but I want to ask you why hasn't he been held accountable, or anybody?"
Trump then asked whether Mayorkas was given a pardon, to which the reporter responded, "I don't believe so."
"Well, I'll take a look at that one because what he did is beyond incompetence. Now, with that being said, he took orders from other people. And you could say he was very loyal to them. It must have been very hard for him to stand up and talk about what he allowed to happen to this country and be serious about it," Trump said.
"But if he wasn't given a pardon, I could see looking into that. Why don't you take a look at it, Kristi," Trump added, looking toward current Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
Trump noted that Mayorkas was impeached but called it a "fake." In February of 2024, Mayorkas was impeached by the GOP-led House of Representatives, but the charges were immediately dismissed by then-Senator Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.
In May of this year, Trump revoked Mayorkas' Secret Service protection, which had been extended for an additional six months by former President Joe Biden.
