President-elect Donald Trump is entering the White House with some of the best approval ratings of his political career.
Most Americans, 56%, expect Trump to do a good job in his second term, with 55% of Americans approving of how he handled his transition, according to a recent CNN poll.
Trump has a favorable rating of 46% and an unfavorable rating of 48%, his best numbers since after the 2016 presidential election, CNN's results showed.
The poll showed respondents are less optimistic about Republicans controlling the White House and both houses of Congress, with 53% saying it was bad for the country.
Most respondents, 56%, said they believe economic conditions will improve within a year from now, while 52% said they believe the country will be better off four years from now, according to the poll.
Respondents also believe Trump will follow through on his plan to deport millions of immigrants, 74%, and 58% said they believe Trump will close the border with Mexico, the poll found. Just four in 10 believe he will close the Department of Education and birthright citizenship.
Vice President-elect J.D. Vance has a lower favorability rating than Trump, with 30% viewing him favorably and 38% viewing him unfavorably. First lady Melania Trump tallied a 33% favorably rating and a 30% unfavorably rating, according to the poll.
The CNN Poll was conducted by SSRS from January 9-12 among a random national sample of 1,205 adults drawn from a probability-based panel. Surveys were either conducted online or by telephone with a live interviewer. Results among the full sample have a margin of sampling error of ±3.2 percentage points.
