The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday issued updated advice regarding COVID-19 vaccines for children, saying kids "may now receive" the shot, contradicting Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s announcement that the government would stop recommending routine COVID-19 vaccinations for healthy children and pregnant women.
The new guidance says parents who want to vaccinate their child "may receive COVID-19 vaccination, informed by the clinical judgment of a healthcare provider and personal preference and circumstances."
Kennedy said he would remove the CDC's recommendation.
"I couldn't be more pleased to announce that, as of today, the COVID vaccine for healthy children and healthy pregnant women has been removed from the CDC's recommended immunization schedule," he said in a video attached to his post.
HHS spokesman Andrew Nixon in an email to The Washington Post said the CDC and HHS "encourage individuals to talk with their healthcare provider on any medical decisions."
