Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is "trying to use every stall tactic that he can" to delay the vote on President Donald Trump's "one big, beautiful bill," including forcing a full reading of the 900-plus page text of the legislation that began Saturday night and continued into Sunday morning, Rep. David Kustoff said on Newsmax.
"What they want to do is try to derail the Trump agenda," the Tennessee Republican told Newsmax's "Wake Up America Weekend" on Sunday. "The 'one big beautiful bill' is everything that Donald Trump campaigned on in 2024."
Trump has said he wants the bill on his desk by July 4, but Schumer's push to have the bill read out loud stalls the House from being able to vote on what the Senate returns to it, said Kustoff.
"The goal right now is to still try to get it passed in the Senate and in the House so that President Trump can sign it by July 4," he added. "Hopefully, we're able to get that done. If it slips by a day or two or three, so be it. But the fact of the matter is that right now, Schumer is using every stall tactic that he can to try to delay this vote on the passage of the 'one big, beautiful bill.'"
Meanwhile, he said he doubts that many Democrats were in their Senate seats to hear the reading of the bill, but he does think that the measure could come up for a vote by Monday.
And if that happens, the House will start considering the changes in the legislation on Tuesday and Wednesday, giving enough time to have the bill to Trump's desk by July 4.
"This is what the American people campaigned on," he added. "This is why they elected Donald Trump in all those swing states across the nation. This is why the nation's voters gave us a majority Republican United States Senate. This is why the voters allowed us to keep a majority in the House of Representatives to do exactly what we are going to be voting on in the next few days and in the next day or so in the Senate."
Kustoff, though, said he thinks the House is on track to get the bill to Trump, but that means it will "have to pass exactly what the Senate is voting on over the next day or so."
"Again, I think we're on track to do that on Tuesday, Wednesday, even Thursday," he said. "I'll remind you, if we do it Thursday, that's July 3. That's one day before July 4."
