Devin Nunes told Newsmax on Thursday that Trump Media and Technology Group's planned merger with a nuclear fusion company could reshape U.S. energy production and power the country's artificial intelligence future, calling the move the most consequential deal in a century.
Nunes, chair of the President's Intelligence Advisory Board and CEO of Trump Media and Technology Group, said the company is pursuing a transformative $6 billion merger with TAE Technologies Fusion Power Clean Energy Co. aimed at redefining U.S. energy production and securing long-term power for emerging technologies.
On "The Chris Salcedo Show," Nunes said Trump Media, the parent company of Truth Social, has spent the past year and a half raising capital with the goal of acquiring what he called a "crown jewel" asset following the company's public debut.
"Well, this is really the mother of all announcements in that we have said for now, a year and a half since we've been public, we were raising capital in order to acquire a crown jewel," he said.
"Truth Social solved a very important problem for the American people, and that was free speech. We were able to not only open up Truth Social and our streaming component, not just in the United States, but globally, and keep that up without working with Big Tech."
Nunes said the company then turned its attention to what he described as another pressing national challenge, rising energy costs, and long-term power supply.
"And now we've been looking for what's the other issue at the highest level where we can make a difference? I mean, this is a purpose-driven company, Trump Media.
"We want to do big things. And as you know, and I think your audience knows, energy prices continue to soar.
"For 20 years, we've invested in windmills and solar panels. This massive failure occurred while China was building nuclear power plants and coal plants."
He continued: "So we're merging and acquiring a company called TAE. It's the world's premier nuclear fusion company.
"This will be the largest, biggest deal, most important deal that's happened in the last 100 years since the first Manhattan Project."
Nunes contrasted fusion with existing nuclear fission technology, arguing that fusion offers significantly reduced radioactive material and, with TAE's approach, no radioactive waste.
"So they [TAE] built five generations of this reactor. We are stepping in now, bringing them gold, and we're going to look for a site to build the first 50-megawatt reactor, with plans in the future to move up to 350 and 500 if this works."
Nunes also linked the merger to national competitiveness in artificial intelligence, rejecting proposals to limit domestic data center construction.
"The left, they've been proposing things like, well, we're not going to build any more data centers in the United States.
"That's their answer. ... I mean, that is insanity.
"That's the definition of insanity," he said. "We think big. We're going to do big things, and we believe in the scientists who are at TAE."
