A Democratic National Committee official is under fire for an email suggesting jobs on the Technology Team not be offered to "cisgender straight white males."
"I personally would prefer that you not forward to cisgender straight white males, since they're already in the majority," Data Services manager Madeleine Leader told colleagues in the email soliciting candidates for job openings, according to The Daily Wire, which obtained a copy of the email sent Tuesday.
"Cisgender" is a term used to describe people who identify with the same gender as they actually are biologically. It is used as an opposite of "transgender."
Leader said in the email that the DNC aims to fill jobs with people from varied backgrounds.
"What's more important is that we are focused on hiring and maintaining a staff of diverse voices and life experiences, something that we desperately need if we hope to secure the future of our country," she wrote.
It was not clear where The Daily Wire obtained the email, but at least one anonymous staffer was not happy with it.
"Clearly the DNC is doubling down on a failed strategy that has alienated staffers and voters alike," the staffer said. "We want to be judged based on the quality of our work, not on identity politics. How can we trust the leadership of the DNC if they don’t even trust us?"
Leader declined to comment to the website.
The DNC told The Hill that the email was not "authorized" by the organization.
"The email in question was not authorized by the DNC nor was it authorized by senior leadership," DNC spokesman Michael Tyler told The Hill. "All hiring decisions at the DNC are made consistent with the DNC’s commitment to equal employment opportunity and hiring an inclusive and talented staff that reflects the coalition of the Democratic Party, because our diversity is our greatest strength."
