Trump Blasts Courts Over Tariffs, Powell Ruling in Fiery Posts

By    |   Monday, 16 March 2026 08:28 AM EDT

President Donald Trump used two lengthy social media posts to denounce Supreme Court justices who "disrespect the Presidents who nominate them to the highest position in the Land" and to assail lower-court partisan Democrat judges, including one with "the highest level of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS)."

Trump late Sunday sharply criticized the Supreme Court following its ruling last month striking down key tariffs he imposed using emergency economic powers.

The high court ruled 6–3 that the tariffs exceeded presidential authority under a 1977 national emergency law, saying Congress, not the president, holds the constitutional power to impose import taxes.

"The Democrats on the Court always 'stick together,' no matter how strong a case is put before them — There is rarely even a minor 'waver,'" Trump wrote on Truth Social. "But Republicans do not do this.

"They openly disrespect the Presidents who nominate them to the highest position in the Land, a Justice of the United States Supreme Court, and go out of their way, with bad and wrongful rulings and intentions, to prove how 'honest,' 'independent,' and 'legitimate' they are."

Trump said the tariff decision threatened to reward foreign competitors that have long taken advantage of the United States.

"The decision that mattered most to me was TARIFFS!" Trump wrote. "The Court knew where I stood, how badly I wanted this Victory for our Country, and instead decided to, potentially, give away Trillions of Dollars to Countries and Companies who have been taking advantage of the United States for decades."

While the ruling curtailed the specific tariff authority he used, Trump noted the court acknowledged he still retains the ability to impose tariffs through other legal mechanisms.

The administration has already begun exploring new trade actions and investigations to restore tariff protections and counter foreign trade practices.

Trump also thanked Justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, and Brett Kavanaugh for what he called their "Wisdom and Courage" in dissenting from the decision, while accusing the court's liberal bloc of voting together politically.

"Our Supreme Court has made these Countries very happy," Trump wrote, adding that he will "fight hard" to ensure American interests are protected.

In a second Truth Social post, Trump turned his attention to the federal judiciary and a separate court ruling involving Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell.

A federal judge on Friday quashed Justice Department subpoenas tied to an investigation into Powell's testimony about the Federal Reserve's costly Washington headquarters renovation, ruling that prosecutors produced "essentially zero evidence" of wrongdoing.

Trump blasted the decision and singled out U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, accusing him of partisan bias.

"I strongly criticized Jerome 'Too Late' for his horrible performance throughout his tenure, which is either gross incompetence, total dishonesty, or both," Trump wrote, "and, in return for this well justified criticism, get viciously and wrongfully blamed by, as usual, a Wacky, Nasty, Crooked, and totally Out of Control Judge, named James Boasberg, a man who suffers from the highest level of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS), and has been 'after' my people, and me, for years."

The president alleged that Powell's renovation project had spiraled into a costly "money pit" and argued it should be investigated.

Trump said Boasberg's ruling blocking the investigation reflected broader political bias in the courts.

"What Boasberg has done on the 'Too Late' Powell case, and many others, has little to do with the Law, and everything to do with Politics," Trump wrote.
