Musk Offers to Help Trump Drain the Swamp

By    |   Wednesday, 04 September 2024 11:01 PM EDT

Tesla CEO Elon Musk doubled down on his promise to help dial back on the size and scope of government should former President Donald Trump win a second term.

The Trump call to "drain the swamp" has been a common refrain since he first ran for the White House in 2016. Posting on his X platform on Wednesday, Musk wrote "I can't wait. There is a lot of waste and needless regulation in government that needs to go."

Musk was responding to a report that indicated Trump was looking to Musk to help be a part of a proposed "government efficiency commission" that would aim to audit federal agencies and identify which programs and personnel to cut.

The SpaceX CEO responded "Yes" earlier in the week in response to a post that said it was time to "shrink the government."

Musk is no stranger to streamlining large organizations. The tech mogul cut close to half of the over 7,500 Twitter employees shortly after acquiring the social media platform in October of 2022. Renamed X, it is now said to run with a staff that is 20% of its former size.
