President Donald Trump is convening an emergency Cabinet-level meeting amid Israel's offensive on Iran, CNN reported Thursday night.
The meeting was pre-planned and not a last-minute scramble, signaling the White House anticipated the strikes were coming, according to the report.
The meeting will focus on the U.S. response as well as real-time developments, according to the report.
According to the White House, the president will attend a National Security Council meeting on Friday morning at 11 a.m. ET.
Before Israel launched the strike on Iran's nuclear program scientists and infrastructure, Trump had issued one last reminder he was intent on seeking a "diplomatic resolution."
"We remain committed to a diplomatic resolution to the Iran nuclear issue!" Trump wrote on Truth Social. "My entire administration has been directed to negotiate with Iran.
"They could be a great country, but they first must completely give up hopes of obtaining a nuclear weapon. Thank you for your attention to this matter!
