By    |   Saturday, 28 June 2025 10:28 AM EDT

President Donald Trump slammed the "fake news media" over reports that the administration was considering unfreezing Iranian assets and allowing Tehran to proceed with a new civilian nuclear energy program.

"Who in the Fake News Media is the SleazeBag saying that 'President Trump wants to give Iran $30 Billion to build non-military Nuclear facilities.' Never heard of this ridiculous idea. It's just another HOAX put out by the Fake News in order to demean. These people are SICK!!!," Trump posted Friday night on his Truth Social platform.

CNN reported on Thursday and NBC News reported on Friday that the Trump administration in recent days had explored possible economic incentives for Iran in return for its government halting uranium enrichment. The reports cited sources.

CNN cited officials as saying that several proposals were floated and were preliminary.

According to NBC News, The tentative proposal would also allow Iran to receive assistance from regional countries to enable Tehran to build a civilian nuclear program, granting Tehran access to as much as $30 billion.

The proposal for a a new civilian nuclear program was reported to be worth nearly $30 billion.

Following last weekend's strikes on the nuclear facilities in Iran, Trump has pushed for diplomacy, reminding Tehran that the U.S. is holding all the cards in any negotiations.

On Friday afternoon, the president posted a lengthy tiride against Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, saying that the U.S. could have assassinated him but Trump "SAVED HIM FROM A VERY UGLY AND IGNOMINIOUS DEATH."

He added, "I wish the leadership of Iran would realize that you often get more with HONEY than you do with VINEGAR. PEACE!!!"
