President Donald Trump continued his criticism of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell for not lowering interest rates.
"He's doing a terrible job," Trump said of Powell to reporters outside the White House Friday. "He's costing our country a lot of money. We should be #1 and we're not. That's because of Jerome Powell."
On his Truth Social account Thursday, Trump referred to Powell as "Too Late."
"Country is now 'back.' A great credit!," Trump wrote. "Fed should rapidly lower rate to reflect this strength. USA should be at the 'top of the list.' no INFLATION!!! 'Too Late' demeans the great credit of the USA. We are now, again, the Number One Credit in the World! 'Gigantic Comeback.' The Fed Rate should be reflective of this. We should be at the top of the list!!! LOWER THE RATE!!!"
In a Truth Social post last week, Trump said Powell should resign immediately and linked to a Bloomberg story headlined, "Fed Chair Should Be Investigated by Congress, FHSA Head Says."
Powell was nominated by Trump in 2017 to lead the Federal Reserve. His tenure as Fed chair is set to end May 2026.
Trump previously said Powell and the Federal Reserve should be "ashamed of themselves."
"They have one of the easiest, yet most prestigious, jobs in America, and they have failed — and continue to do so," Trump wrote. "If they were doing their job properly, our country would be saving trillions of dollars in interest cost. The board just sits there and watches, so they are equally to blame. We should be paying 1% interest, or better!"
