President Donald Trump plans to celebrate passage of his "big, beautiful bill" by embarking on a victory tour after the legislation's final passage in Congress, it was reported.
In what would be an unofficial kickoff to campaigning for next year's midterms, Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and top cabinet officials would tout the bill in visits to key states and congressional districts, Axios reported Monday night.
Republicans in 2026 will be seeking to retain a House majority, currently at 220-212 with three vacancies.
Trump's team members on Monday discussed plans for the victory tour, a source told the outlet. They understand GOP success in the midterms will depend greatly on Americans' take on the economy next year.
"Tough hasn't stopped us before," a White House source told Axios.
The president has told lawmakers he wants to sign the tax-cut and spending legislation by July 4.
Axios added that Trump's team has been buoyed by the U.S. attacks on Iranian nuclear sites and the apparent ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
Meeting Trump's deadline could be problematic as Senate Republicans try to resolve several issues with the bill, which will need to go back to the House for approval.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., and the Republican leadership are aiming to start voting Thursday, Politico reported. However, senators left a closed-door briefing Monday night saying that some key issues, such as tax decisions and Medicaid, remained unresolved.
Also, Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough may not finish ruling on whether major tax provisions are suitable under the reconciliation process, which requires a simple majority to pass, until Wednesday night at the earliest.
Thune has said senators "will remain here" in Washington "until this reconciliation bill is passed," The Hill reported.
"By placing this historic bill on @POTUS's desk by the Fourth of July, Republicans will be ensuring that future generations of Americans can live in safety and prosperity," Thune posted Monday on X.
