Trump Again Urges GOP to End Senate Filibuster

By    |   Tuesday, 04 November 2025 10:30 AM EST

President Donald Trump on Tuesday issued a blistering call for Republicans to eliminate the Senate filibuster, warning that failure to act would hand control of Congress and the White House to Democrats in the 2026 midterm elections.

The post, shared on his platform Truth Social, spelled out a sweeping agenda, from secured borders and tax cuts to Second Amendment protections, and placed the burden squarely on Senate Republicans to execute it.

"The Democrats are far more likely to win the Midterms, and the next Presidential Election, if we don't do the Termination of the Filibuster (The Nuclear Option!)," Trump wrote on Election Day morning. "For three years, NOTHING WILL BE PASSED, and Republicans WILL BE BLAMED."

Among his promised policy goals: "FAIR, FREE and SAFE Elections, No Men in Women's Sports ... Strong Borders, Major Tax and Energy Cuts, and ... secure our Second Amendment."

Trump framed the filibuster as a procedural barrier that empowers "crazed Democrat lunatics" to block GOP-led legislation and argued that without its removal, Republicans would face defeat.

He warned of far-reaching consequences: a packed Supreme Court, added states (D.C. and Puerto Rico), four additional Democrat senators, and eight more electoral votes.

Nearly 90 minutes after the lengthy post, Trump returnt to Truth Social to say: "TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER!!!"

In an earlier message via the National Republican Congressional Committee, Trump formally outlined an expanding war chest and a mobilized campaign infrastructure for 2026, but the planned surge of federal policy achievements still depends on clearing the legislative gridlock.

Republican leadership in the Senate, however, appears divided.

Senators including John Thune, R-S.D., and Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, have reiterated their support for the filibuster, describing it as a safeguard for minority rights and future rule changes.

As reported by Courthouse News, they have dismissed Trump's demand as out of step with chamber norms.

The push reflects Trump's broader strategy of marrying electoral mobilization with legislative ambition.

In recent midterms, GOP performance has lagged when not supplemented by high turnout among his base, a dynamic the administration now seeks to reverse.

As ABC News noted, the White House is already coordinating closely with Republican campaign committees to avoid messy primaries and ensure alignment with Trump-approved candidates.

From a conservative vantage point, the move makes political sense: the decades-old filibuster requirement, which often enabled Democrat obstruction when the GOP held power, is now the very mechanism Republicans claim is aiding the left.

The argument goes that if Democrats would proceed to eliminate the rule to clinch control, then Republicans must take the preemptive step now to deliver on their policy agenda and meet voter expectations.

In his post, Trump explicitly linked the filibuster's future with the execution of the Republican policy platform.

"IF we do terminate the Filibuster, we will get EVERYTHING approved … WE WILL BE THE PARTY THAT CANNOT BE BEATEN," he declared.

Whether Senate Republicans are ready to heed the call remains unclear.

For now, Trump is making it a central theme of the 2026 message: rule reform first, policy wins second — and victory hangs in the balance.

Complete Trump post: "The Democrats are far more likely to win the Midterms, and the next Presidential Election, if we don't do the Termination of the Filibuster (The Nuclear Option!), because it will be impossible for Republicans to get Common Sense Policies done with these Crazed Democrat Lunatics being able to block everything by withholding their votes. FOR THREE YEARS, NOTHING WILL BE PASSED, AND REPUBLICANS WILL BE BLAMED. Elections, including the Midterms, will be rightfully brutal. If we do terminate the Filibuster, we will get EVERYTHING approved, like no Congress in History. We will have FAIR, FREE, and SAFE Elections, No Men in Women's Sports or Transgender for Everybody, Strong Borders, Major Tax and Energy Cuts, and will secure our Second Amendment, which the Democrats will also terminate, IMMEDIATELY. If we don't do it, they are far more likely to do well in the upcoming Elections, which would mean a PACKED Supreme Court, 2 more States and 4 more Democrat Senators (D.C. and Puerto Rico), and 8 more Electoral Votes. Remember, Republicans, they are going to end the Filibuster as soon as they get the chance. We know this because they already tried, and the only two people who didn't go along are now out of office. But they have much less chance of WINNING if we have Great Policy Wins after Wins after Wins. IN FACT, THEY WILL LOSE BIG, AND FOR A VERY LONG TIME. TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER NOW, END THE RIDICULOUS SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATELY, AND THEN, MOST IMPORTANTLY, PASS EVERY WONDERFUL REPUBLICAN POLICY THAT WE HAVE DREAMT OF, FOR YEARS, BUT NEVER GOTTEN. WE WILL BE THE PARTY THAT CANNOT BE BEATEN - THE SMART PARTY!!!"
