President Donald Trump on Sunday ripped apart Rep. Thomas Massie, accusing the Kentucky Republican of being "not MAGA" after he said the president's decision to strike three Iranian nuclear facilities was unconstitutional and is engaged in a bipartisan fight for a war powers act to require authorization from Congress before military strikes on Iran.
Massie, Trump wrote on his Truth Social page, is "not MAGA, even though he likes to say he is," adding that the supporters of his Make America Great Again initiative don't want him, know him, or respect him.
"He is a negative force who almost always Votes 'NO,' no matter how good something may be," Trump said. "He's a simple minded 'grandstander' who thinks it's good politics for Iran to have the highest level Nuclear weapon, while at the same time yelling 'DEATH TO AMERICA' at every chance they get."
The congressman appeared on CBS' "Face the Nation" Sunday morning along with Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., with whom he has worked on the war powers resolution.
"I represent part of the coalition that elected President Trump," Massie said Sunday. "We were tired of endless wars in the Middle East, and tired of wars in Eastern Europe. And we were promised that we would put our veterans, our immigration policies, and our infrastructure first."
He added that members of Congress were on recess last week and were not briefed before the nuclear site bombings.
Trump, in his post, said Iran has "killed and maimed thousands of Americans" after taking over the American Embassy in Tehran during President Jimmy Carter's administration.
"We had a spectacular military success yesterday, taking the 'bomb' right out of their hands (and they would use it if they could!) but, as usual, and despite all of the praise and accolades received, this 'lightweight' Congressman is against what was so brilliantly achieved last night in Iran," Trump added.
He also said Massie is being "weak, ineffective, and votes 'NO' on virtually everything put before him (Rand Paul, Jr.), no matter how good something may be."
The president also accused Massie of being "disrespectful to our great military, and all that they stand for," and said that the congressman did not acknowledge "their brilliance and bravery in yesterday's attack, which was a total and complete WIN."
He called on Massie to "drop his fake act" and "start putting America First."
Trump added, "He doesn't know how to get there — he doesn't have a clue! He'll undoubtedly vote against the Great, Big, Beautiful Bill, even though non-passage means a 68% Tax Increase for everybody, and many things far worse than that."
He also called upon his MAGA followers to "drop this pathetic LOSER, Tom Massie, like the plague!"
Trump added that he will be campaigning "really hard" against Massie's reelection in next year's Kentucky Republican primary.
"MAGA is not about lazy, grandstanding, nonproductive politicians, of which Thomas Massie is definitely one," Trump said. "Thank you to our incredible military for the AMAZING job they did last night. It was really SPECIAL!!! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN."
