President Donald Trump on Thursday issued a statement denying a report from The Wall Street Journal stating that he has approved plans to attack Iran.
The Journal reported on Wednesday that Trump informed his senior aides on Tuesday evening that he has approved attack plans for Iran but was waiting to see if Iran would end its nuclear program before issuing the order to proceed.
The Pentagon has sent multiple U.S. warships to the Middle East in the past few days, including three Navy destroyers and two carrier strike groups, according to the newspaper.
In a statement on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump denied the newspaper's report, saying, "The Wall Street Journal has No Idea what my thoughts are concerning Iran!"
The president previously told reporters on Wednesday, "I have ideas on what to do, but I haven't made a final [decision] — I like to make the final decision one second before it's due."
He added, "I may do it, I may not do it. The next week is going to be very big, maybe less than a week."
Iran's United Nations Mission issued a statement seemingly in response to Trump saying, "Iran does NOT negotiate under duress, shall NOT accept peace under duress, and certainly NOT with a has-been warmonger clinging to relevance."
