The office of California Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom on Tuesday declined Florida's offer to send the state guard to Los Angeles, accusing Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis of trying to "inflame an already chaotic situation," The Hill reported.
It's unclear when DeSantis made the offer, but Newsom's office confirmed it, saying the "guard were not needed in the first place," according to the report.
"We declined Governor DeSantis' attempt to inflame an already chaotic situation made worse by his party's leader," referring to President Donald Trump, The Hill reported.
Newsom on Tuesday filed an emergency motion to block Trump from sending more National Guard troops or Marines to quell the unrest that has roiled Los Angeles since Saturday.
Meanwhile, DeSantis has warned against similar protests in Florida while musing about California's handling of the riots, which began in protest of ICE's crackdown on illegal immigration in the city.
"That isn't going to fly in Florida," DeSantis said during a Cabinet meeting Tuesday. "This is not Los Angeles. This is the free state of Florida. So we respect the law, we respect the people that are executing the law."
"If you don't like the laws, then vote for people to change the laws. You don't have the right to just simply opt out of federal immigration law," he said.
