Reps. Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga., and Thomas Massie, R-Ky., say leaders of the Jan. 6 House Select Committee honored by President Joe Biden Thursday with the Presidential Citizens Medal for their "exemplary deeds of service for their country," failed to investigate the two pipe bombs discovered blocks from the U.S. Capitol on the day of the attack.
Biden lauded Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., and former Republican Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney for holding a "steadfast commitment to truth."
Massie and Loudermilk in a joint committee report released Thursday and titled "Four Years Later: Examining the State of the Investigation into the RNC and DNC Pipe Bombs," said the Jan. 6 committee "chose to overlook the pipe bombs' existence."
"The FBI has no suspects on the J6 RNC/DNC pipe bombs, and Pelosi/Cheney's former J6 Select Committee failed to report on the many security failures surrounding the event during their "investigation," Loudermilk said in a post on X with a link to the report.
"Today's report highlights why the American people still deserve the full truth."
The FBI on Thursday released more information about its pipe bomb investigation, including an estimate that the unidentified suspect is about 5 feet, 7 inches tall. The FBI also is posting previously unreleased video of the suspect placing one of the bombs.
A host of basic questions remains unanswered four years later. For starters, investigators haven't determined if the suspect is a man or a woman. Additionally, no clear link has been established between the pipe bombs and the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol by a mob of Donald Trump's supporters.
Kamala Harris, then the Vice President-elect, was inside the DNC offices when the pipe bomb was found outside the building about 1:05 p.m. Before the bomb was deactivated, then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's motorcade passed by the DNC building as she was evacuated from the Capitol, according to House Republicans.
