Former Adviser Says Harris Will Be Back

By    |   Monday, 30 December 2024 06:48 PM EST

Former top adviser to Vice President Kamala Harris, Symone Sanders-Townsend, said Monday that despite the Democrat nominee's election loss, she'll be back in politics.

"I don't think the world has seen the last of Vice President Kamala Harris," Sanders-Townsend said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

"I don't know how she will show up again, but she is a young politician who garnered over 75 million votes in this election. And she will be back."

As the lame-duck Biden administration enters its final month in office, some are speculating where Harris will land.

In Harris' concession speech after soundly losing to President-elect Donald Trump, she said she "does not concede the fight that fueled this campaign."

According to a Morning Consult poll, Harris holds, for now, a strong sway as a viable contender in 2028. The poll found that "43% of Democrats and Democrat-leaning independents nationwide said they would vote for Harris" in 2028 for a bid at the Oval Office. Still, she'd likely face off against other contenders in the Democratic Party, such as California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, and/or Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro.

According to The Hill, some speculate Harris could make a run for the California governor's mansion in 2026. Newsom will have reached his term limit by then, leaving the seat open.

A recent poll by the University of California, Berkeley, and the Los Angeles Times found that nearly half of California voters would support Harris if she entered the gubernatorial race.

Nonetheless, experts have stressed it is too early to predict Harris' next move. But some in the Democrat camp, per The Hill, have expressed optimism toward Harris being a key figure in the party in the time to come.

"She always served this country with purpose and integrity, and she always will," President Joe Biden said of Harris. "You're not going anywhere, kid, because we're not going to let you go."

However, other Democrats have expressed vehement skepticism about a Harris return to politics. Ana Kasparian of "The Young Turks" exploded a week and a half ago at the prospect of Harris making a run in the California governor race, balking the suggestion by her cohost Cenk Uygur.

"No! No!" Kasparian shouted at Uygur after he suggested Harris would win in a "cakewalk for governor."

"What are you doing?! What are you doing?!" she shouted. "I'm gonna move, Cenk! I'm gonna quit my job. I'm gonna quit my job, and I'm gonna move."
