Two House Republicans missed the vote on the "one, big, beautiful bill" that was approved Thursday.
Neither Reps. Andrew Garbarino, R-N.Y., nor David Schweikert, R-Ariz., voted on President Donald Trump's sweeping tax and spending bill, which passed the House 215-214-1.
According to Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., Garbarino "fell asleep in the back, no kidding," Politico reported.
"I'm going to just strangle him," Johnson joked, "but he's my dear friend."
Johnson said Schweikert arrived after the vote was gaveled closed and before his vote could be counted.
Garbarino's office said the congressman "inadvertently missed the vote."
"After sitting through proceedings all night, the Congressman briefly stepped out and inadvertently missed the vote," a spokesperson said, Politico reported. "He was present throughout the lead-up to the legislation's consideration and fully intended to support it. This is one of many reasons why governing should happen in the light of day — not in the dead of night."
