Vice President-elect JD Vance said he cannot watch the Ohio State-Notre Dame national championship football game Monday night Jan. 20, and he joked that he will skip his and President-elect Donald Trump's inaugural ball for the game of his alma mater Ohio State Buckeyes.
"Hopefully everyone is cool with me skipping the inauguration so I can go to the national title game," Vance posted on X on Friday.
Vance made a tongue-in-cheek plea for the NCAA to move the national championship game off Inauguration Day, even joking when asked if he would have some power to move the game as vice president-elect.
"Trust me, I've asked, apparently not," Vance said in a TV interview Sunday. "I assure you, that was a joke. I will be there, doing my constitutional duty and swearing in as the 50th vice president of the United States.
"But, man, I really wish they could move the game until Tuesday.
"So, if you're watching this show and you have the power, I'd really like to watch the Buckeyes and I don't want to be at the Inaugural Ball, like, staring at my phone because we're watching Ohio State versus Notre Dame.
"So let's move that game.
"But, if not, I'll be rooting for the Buckeyes in spirit."
