Sen. Britt: Dems Using IVF Access as 'Scare Tactic'

By    |   Sunday, 29 September 2024 09:53 PM EDT

Democrats are using access to in vitro fertilization "as a scare tactic," Sen. Katie Britt, R-Ala., told "Fox News Sunday."

"Sen. Ted Cruz and I led a letter with all 49 Republican senators signing on, saying they strongly support nationwide access to IVF," Britt said. "And the truth is, Democrats continue to use this issue as a scare tactic, because IVF is legal and accessible in all 50 states. And [former] President [Donald] Trump has made it perfectly clear that he'll continue to make sure that that's the case."

When asked why she voted no on an IVF bill put up by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., Britt responded that it was a "show vote" and that the bill "extended into human cloning."

In an emailed statement, Democratic National Committee spokeswoman Aida Ross responded to The Hill on the matter of Senate Republicans voting against the IVF bill up by Schumer: "When Donald Trump's MAGA lackeys in the Senate had the chance to protect IVF access for those who want to start or grow their family, they voted against it — including JD Vance.

"Trump is the reason why IVF is at risk in the first place, and the American people are not falling for his MAGA minions' desperate spin to cover for his extreme, anti-choice Project 2025 agenda."
