Carville: 'Too Many Preachy' Dem Females Harming Party in Polls

By    |   Sunday, 24 March 2024 09:16 PM EDT

The fact that there are "too many preachy females" in the Democratic Party could be the reason why President Joe Biden is losing support among voters, Democratic strategist James Carville told The New York Times in an interview published Saturday.

He stressed that the culture and rhetoric of the Democratic Party is especially pushing away male voters.

"A suspicion of mine is that there are too many preachy females," said Carville, who was a strategist for the 1992 campaign of former President Bill Clinton. "'Don't drink beer; don't watch football; don't eat hamburgers; this is not good for you.' The message is too feminine: 'Everything you're doing is destroying the planet. You've got to eat your peas.'"

Carville said, "If you listen to Democratic elites — NPR is my go-to place for that — the whole talk is about how women, and women of color, are going to decide this election. I'm like: 'Well, 48% of the people that vote are males. Do you mind if they have some consideration?'"

He also joked about Biden's low approval ratings, saying, "When I look at these polling numbers, it's like walking in on your grandma naked. You can't get the image out of your mind."

Carville has also recently expressed concerns about Biden's lower backing among voters of color, calling it "a problem" for the president last week, The Hill reported.

Recent polls have shown a significant decrease in support among Black Americans, while the Democratic Party's lead among Hispanic adults is at its lowest point since 2011.

The Biden campaign is trying to boost its attempts to reach voters of color, last week launching an ad warning of Trump's views of Hispanics and of Biden speaking to Black voters in battleground states, with his campaign emphasizing that another term for former President Donald Trump would be a "disaster" for both groups.
