By    |   Tuesday, 31 December 2024 10:36 PM EST

Rep. Jeff Jackson, D-N.C., will resign from Congress effective midnight Wednesday, a few days before his term officially ends on Friday.

Jackson said in a video posted on X, "[T]o avoid the three-day overlap and make sure I'm not getting paid by those two jobs at the same time, I'm resigning a few days early from my term in Congress.”

Rep.-elect Tim Moore, a Republican, will take the seat in the next Congress.
