House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan has said he'll look into a call from William Pulte, the director of U.S. Federal Housing and chairman of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, to investigate Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, according to a report Wednesday afternoon.
Bloomberg News' Erik Wasson, reporting on X, said that the Ohio Republican said he will "look at" Pulte's call for a probe.
Wednesday, Pulte issued a statement calling on Congress to investigate the Fed chair, accusing him of lying about renovations that were made in the office's headquarters in Washington, D.C.
"I am asking Congress to investigate Chairman Jerome Powell, his political bias, and his deceptive Senate testimony, which is enough to be removed 'for cause,'" Pulte said in a statement. "Jerome Powell's $2.5B Building Renovation Scandal stinks to high heaven, and he lied when asked about the specifics before Congress. This is nothing short of malfeasance and is worthy of 'for cause.'"
