House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chair James Comer, R-Ky., on Friday told Politico he's planning to meet with President-elect Donald Trump's FBI pick to let him know "that our committee will assist in any way possible to help him disrupt the 'Deep State.'"
"[Kash Patel] and I are fixing to meet because, with respect to him, they need to hold some people accountable for a cover-up," Comer told the news outlet.
"It's a big deal to know that the president of the United States is on the take, and yet you do nothing — and I would go further, obstructed our investigation and coordinated with the media to write things that just weren't true."
Comer was referring to officials who he said obstructed his committee's work surrounding an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.
Patel, a former federal prosecutor and public defender, in his book "Government Gangsters" lists 60 people he has deemed members of the "Executive Branch Deep State."
They include people such as FBI Director Christopher Wray, Attorney General Merrick Garland, and Biden.
Wray is expected to resign before Trump takes office.
