Louisiana AG to Newsmax: FBI Spoke Too Soon on Jabbar's Terrorist Links

By    |   Saturday, 04 January 2025 05:57 PM EST

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill expressed frustration with the FBI's initial declaration that the Jan. 1 Bourbon Street attack had no ties to terrorism, citing a need for more thorough investigations and better communication.

Speaking on Newsmax's "The Count" on Saturday, Murrill pointed to the visible presence of an ISIS flag in the suspect's truck as evidence that warranted deeper scrutiny before dismissing potential terrorist connections.

Shamsud Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old Army veteran, drove a truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, killing 14.

"The distrust of the federal government started a long time before this incident, and I don't think that this has helped them with that, with their reputation," Murrill told Newsmax.

She acknowledged the diligent efforts of FBI agents investigating the case but expressed frustration over what she described as inconsistent messaging.

"They originally believed that there were more people involved, and within 24 hours, they had come to a fairly confident conclusion that there was no one else involved. But, you know, again, that could change again for all we know," Murrill added.

"I believe that we still need a lot of answers about who this man was, and what kind of contacts he might have had with other people that led up to this event, and what he was doing, and who he was engaging with leading up to this event," she said.

"It is frustrating, and I hope that they [FBI] will continue to share information with us and to obtain it quickly because there are other people like him out there," she said.

Information from the Associated Press was used in this story.
