Speaker Johnson: Expect 2 More Reconciliation Bills This Congress

By    |   Sunday, 06 July 2025 03:26 PM EDT

House Speaker Mike Johnson on Sunday called President Donald Trump's megabill "jet fuel" for the nation's economy and said he expects two more reconciliation bills before the current Congress wraps up.

The Louisiana Republican said in a Fox News interview that the big, beautiful bill's passage and signing are a "huge leap forward for our priorities," which he added includes a second reconciliation bill by fall and a third one by spring.

"I think we can do that, and so you'll see more of us advancing these common-sense principles to deliver that American First agenda for the people," the speaker said. "That's what they elected us to do, and this was hugely forward."

Meanwhile, he rejected claims made in a reported Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) memo claiming Republicans will lose their majority in the House after the passage of the megabill, calling their comments "false talking points."

"And we're excited about the upcoming election cycle in 2026 because people will be riding an economic high just as, as we did after the first two years of the first Trump administration – this time's on steroids," Johnson said.

"Our Republicans are going to be out across the country telling the simple truth, and guess what? It will be demonstrated," he added. "Everyone will have more take-home pay, they'll have more jobs and opportunity. The economy will be doing better, and we'll be able to point to that as the obvious result of what we did."

He also called criticisms from DNC Chair Ken Martin and Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif. "Old tired talking points."

The bill, he said, will permanently extend Trump's first-term tax cuts, which target lower- and middle-income Americans.

The bottom one-fifth of earners saw their lowest federal tax rates in 40 years after the original cuts, and now, the new bill will give even more cuts, including on tips, overtime pay, and for seniors, the speaker commented.

"We're giving everybody a tax cut, and that's going to help the economy," he said. "Small business owners, entrepreneurs, risk-takers, the people that provide the jobs, manufacturers, farmers get assistance here, and that will lift the economy."

He also pointed out a report from the Council of Economic Advisers that said the bill will create 4 million jobs, bring 3% economic growth, and increase the average household's take-home pay by $13,000 a year.
